Saturday, September 19 2009, 9:00am - 9:00pm Historic Marshall will be celebrating the 250th Anniversary of Fauquier County with activities going on all over town all day on Saturday, September 19th. This is in conjunction with the Fauquier County Parks and Recreation celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Marshall Community Center (MCC). Here is a brief schedule of events (All Free unless otherwise noted): 9 am Craft Fair begins at the corner of Main Street and Route 17 on the lawn of the Anglican Church of Saint John the Baptist. (Please note that the church parking lot will be reserved for the crafters holding parking passes.) The Anglican Church Women will sell coffee and doughnuts on the church steps in the morning. There will be craft demonstrations of chair caning, lace making and spinning, growing advice from Fauquier Master Gardeners, and wonderful wares for sale including jewelry, pottery, paintings, embroidery, photography, fragrances, yarns, books and more. Lemonade will be available from the Girl Scouts and the Ice Cream truck will also be there. The craft fair runs until 3 p.m. 10 am. Parade down Main Street, with TV journalist Brit Hume as Grand Marshal. Please note that traffic will be affected between 10 and noon, so please advise out of town guests to come early. There will, of course, be no Main Street parking during the parade. 11:30 am Brigadier-General Lewis Marshall Helm speaks at the Fauquier Heritage building. Noon- 3 pm. Live music from area churches performed at the Anglican Church of St. John the Baptist. 12:30 p.m. Children’s Stories read by Claude Thompson principal Mary Pat Warter at the library. 12:00 pm. Skip Glascock and Cobbler Mountain Grass plays music at the Marshall Community Center (MCC) auditorium. 1 pm Walking Tour of Historic Marshall with historian Bob Sinclair. Pre-register for this event at the Fauquier Heritage building or MCC (540) 364-1800. 1-3 pm Children’s Games at the Firehouse back lot. 1:30-3 pm Local authors will be at the library to talk about their books. 1:30 pm Tree Identification Walk hosted by the Virginia Native Plant Society. Meet at MCC. (540) 364-1800 2 pm Square Dancers perform at the MCC auditorium 2-4 pm Tea and History with bell ringer performance at Marshall United Methodist Church. PLUS- Mosby Players at MCC Meeting Room, Civil War Encampment, BBQ Lunch by IGA and Mustang Club/Antique Cars at Marshall Ford, Petting Zoo, Antique Shopping on Main Street, Bag Pipers, Antique Farm Equipment Display on Main Street, Classic Car Show (admission fee) at the Ruritan Building, FILMS: “Willa” and a documentary on Emmanuel Episcopal church by local filmmaker Tom Davenport, “A Town Called Marshall”, and “Fly Away Home” playing at MCC, and wrapping up with a special outdoor showing of “Second Hand Lions” starring Robert Duvall at dusk.
